Day in the Life Stories

I have been an employee of Omni for 2 years. I have had the privilege of working as a resource coordinator, recruiter, and trainer. I have recruited perspective families, trained families, and provided services to children placed in the care of Omni, some in the homes of the families I recruited and trained. I have been fortunate also to have recruited and referred staff. Through all of this, I can honestly say that I enjoy what I do and I enjoy working for Omni, regardless of my role. My enjoyment and contentment with my role is attributed to the fact that I share the same beliefs as Omni regarding children. I believe that every child deserves to live and thrive in a family environment. If they cannot do that successfully with their birth family, they have the right to live and thrive with a foster, adoptive, or substitute family. The challenge for me has always been to identify a work environment where the beliefs and challenges are universal among all employees. Over the past two years, I have witnessed this daily in my area. Everything we do and say represents "our children first."

Omni has provided me a professional arena in which I have grown and can continue to grow, if I choose to do so. Jobs that are career advancements have been made available to me and other staff if we desired to seek them. Training is readily available to me at no cost and supervisors encourage staff to take advantage of every training opportunity. My supervisors do not micro-manage and I love it. I have never had a supervisor to micro-manage me in the time that I have been with Omni. They are available if they are needed but they (supervisors) place lots of trust in me and they expect me to perform and ask for help if I need it. They are supportive of me and I know they "have my back" if I need it.

Team work is an important element of my work environment. I know "it takes a village to raise a child" and I know it takes a team working together to help our children and families be the best they can be. Omni is founded on the principle of team work and it is an important factor in the current success of day-to-day operations. Everyone is always ready to help; regardless of the area, and they offer help without being asked. I have found that concept to be awesome.

There have been many times I needed answers quickly in a timely manner and have received direction within minutes from others on the Omni Visions team. By making a few quick phone calls, an Omni Visions Resource Coordinator feels comfortable managing their caseload and making educated decisions that effect many individual lives. At Omni Visions you are never really alone! "We do together that not one of us can do alone." The help, concern, direction, and love of Omni employees make our jobs more rewarding and satisfying.

Being a Resource Coordinator at Omni Visions has been very rewarding. I have been able to build a positive relationship with many troubled youth that need a positive male role-model. I have enjoyed seeing the laughter on children's faces after they realize their mistakes and attempt to change the way they look at their lives. I have had many of these youths call me during troubled times to help them make the best decision for their situations.
Being a resource coordinator is a position that requires firmness, fairness, integrity, and loyalty to the children you are assigned to work with. By creating awareness these children are able to start identifying problem areas to take action so change can take place in their lives for the better. I personally tell each child I work with that “awareness + action = change.” I have seen the positive changes that these children can make. Sometimes it takes awhile and many obstacles may cloud their judgments, but every child deserves a chance to try and learn better ways to cope with their lives.
